Inter-Party Parliamentary Staff Rounders 2009

The summer recess has begun – that means the Annual Inter-Party Parliamentary Rounders competition is only a few weeks away. I cannot believe it is now in its sixth year! I remember when, as a young researcher, a few friends and I got together to hit a ball around the park. Little did I think then that the parties now spend all year planning their assault on the Edelman Rounders trophy. Considerable, and often worryingly, large amounts of effort goes into the Rounders each year and 2009 looks like being no exception.

Now, last year, the Tories snatched the trophy for the first time in the competition’s history. Labour slumped in last place and the Lib Dems, well they left empty-handed for the first time in four years. 2009 sees all change on the team captains front with Martha Varney rallying the Tory troops, Labour returns to its heartlands with trade union organiser Dan Whittle taking charge and the Lib Dems sees John Foster take the helm.

The date has been set – Wednesday 19 August – from 3pm in Hyde Park. Edelman have found some pennies to buy some beer afterwards and seeing as it is 2009 and it is very much en vogue now we even have a Rounders Twitter feed so you won’t have to go without your latest rounders banter for long.

If you want to play get in touch with Edelman organiser and Rounders Umpire, Victoria Barton, on Victoria.barton@edelman.com.

With only a few weeks to go before the big day – let the games commence!
