Tories buy Budget Keywords?

Brand Republic has an interesting piece today on Tory online tactics around the Budget. Apparently the party has bought up Google keywords that relate to the Budget today in an attempt to grab the spotlight from the Budget. This isn’t the first time the party has used this tactic, so says Brand Republic, noting that they splashed the cash with keywords when they asked Gordon Brown to apologise for his economic record earlier this year directing online visitors to sorryfromgordon.com.

If you search for the Budget now on Google you’ll find KPMG, The Telegraph and DirectGov have already secured the sponsored links. Another nail in the coffin of people who think online campaigning doesn’t have a part to play in politics.
